Boredom and Shonda's Cell -archive from 9/10/08

Dear Curt,

This question is coming a bit out of left field, but I'm really down right now. Life is boring, I'm married with kids and there's just no excitement for me right now. I figured that with your injury you might be going through some doldrums too. Any advice to pick me up?

Ron in St. Paul

Dear Ron,

Hey, I get it man, I really do. In between meetings of my board, charity golf tournaments and speaking engagements, my life can be pretty humdrum. There are days the Nanny doesn't show up and guess what? I have to listen to Shonda whine about taking care of the kids before I tee off. Do I want to answer my cell phone on the golf course? No. But I have a commitment to my wife and my kids that I can't shirk. The repetition of life can be a real downer, Ron, but when you get right down to the core, it's about finding joy in the promise of what's next. For me, who knows? Maybe I pitch next year, maybe I'm secretary of Finance or War for John and Sarah or something like that. I'm sure your life holds mysteries like that too. My suggestion? Play a game, hit a golf ball, answer your wife's phone calls on the golf course and LIVE. Life is tough, but when you get down to it, sometimes you have to bleed through your shoe to feel alive. I don't know exactly what I mean by that, but I have bled through my shoe on national tv. So do what you do the best you can do it even if you have a freakish injury that ruins your career before you can get the HOF credentials for the good of your stupid boss' business. Gotta go, there's goes that f**king cell again. -Curt
